There is a pattern called ASANOHA in Japan from old days.
It is one of the patterns which the Japanese history made. A motif is a family crest of a hemp leaf. It is the geometry pattern which put much hexagon together.
The hemp is very durable and can make a thread from the fiber of the stem. And peaple make it for a net and a rope and cloth and can change it. Hemp was main fiber until cultivation of the cotton began in the history.
There was the silk in those days, too. But the common people can hardly buy the silk with a high price. In addition, peaple can eat the hempseed. The people can extract oil.
Peaple was useful very much. In that way the hemp with the friendly feeling became the pattern in the Heian era. It is ASANOHA pattern.
ASANOHA was used for the decoration of the Buddha statue.
Therefore it is believed that there is power to drive out evil sprits.
In addition, the hemp does not keep bad company. And it is strong and grow straight up. There seemed to be a custom to make baby clothes using ASANOHA to have the wish realized in the Edo era.
We maked the indigo dough that expressed history and meaningful ASANOHA by embroidery. I sewed the jacket which expressed the history and the meaning of the pattern like Japan with the cloth.
